    Description

US FDC 1992 6 Souvenir Sheets Columbus Colorano Cachet 16 Stamps Scott 2624-29 |. Shipped with USPS First Class. MINT Condition
In 1992, the nation celebrated the 500th anniversary of Christopher Columbus and his first voyage to the New World. The US had issued 16 commemorative stamps - the first ever - in 1893 to mark the 400th anniversary, and in 1992 the USPS reproduced those 16 stamp designs on 6 attractive souvenir sheets. The 16 stamps range in denomination from one cent to five dollars, and these 6 First Day of Issue covers, all unaddressed with Colorano's gold-edged cachets each bears one of those historic sheets. Also, the stamps were reportedly produced in line-engraved intaglio using the original dies from 1893!
The 6 first day covers have the 6 souvenir sheets (Scott numbers 2624 to 2629):
First Sighting of Land 1 cent, 4 cent,
Claiming a New World 2 cent, 3 cent,
Seeking Royal Support 5 cent, 30 cent, 50 cent
Royal Favor Restored 6 cent, 8 cent,
Reporting Discoveries 10 cent, 15 cent,
    Christopher Columbus
All of the covers are unaddressed.
This set of 6 would be a wonderful gift to the history buff, or a great addition to any FDC collection!
