It's my pleasure to offer at auction a Rare and Spectacular 1910-1925 MONTAGUE "V.L.&A. EXPERT No.3" 60-YARD SOLID GERMAN SILVER "KENTUCKY" HIGHEST GRADE CASTING TRADE REEL WITH RARE ORIGINAL CHIMNEY BOX. This four-screw Kentucky model was the highest-quality casting reel ever produced by Montague, from around 1910-1925 and is extremely hard to find in the original box. They were consistent in quality with the best reels being produced by Meek and others during the same period. This Trade example was built and branded for exclusive sale through Von Lengerke & Antoine Sporting Goods of Chicago. These should be considered rare. The face plate is stamped "V.L.&A. Expert No.3", the only markings on the reel. Made of solid highly ornamented German silver and comes equipped with strong face plate-mounted clicker & drag switches, perfect inset jeweled end caps and a counterbalanced handle with a celluloid or ivoroid grip. Reel is in Very Fine or better condition, showing just a small chip on the end of the grip, and just very light surface wear otherwise. One of the nicest I've seen. Needless to say, it displays beautifully. Works perfectly and is incredibly smooth-running. Put up in the rare original chimney box, in excellent condition for these. Carries a full top label that is correctly marked for the reel. An extraordinary highest-grade combo from Montague City Rod Co., all original and complete.
