    Description

Hanna Reitsch [1912 1979] was a prominent German aviator who was the first woman to obtain a captain's license, the first female helicopter pilot and the first female test pilot. During World War II Reitsch served as a test pilot for all types of German aircraft including the jet powered Messerschmitt Me 262 fighter and was the only woman to be awarded the Iron Cross. Reitsch was captured by the U.S Army in 1945 and was interned for 15 months. During her career Reitsch set more then 40 endurance and altitude records for powered and motor-less flight and was the first person to fly a glider over the Alps. Listed for auction is photograph signed twice by Hanna Reitsch. The photograph contains a great image of Reitsch in a field with her glider and the autograph is signed ''Hanna Reitsch'' below her image in blue pen. The photograph is signed again on the verso ''With best wishes Hanna Reitsch'' in blue felt pen. The photograph is a b/w which measures 6.00 x 4.25 inches and is in fine condition. The photograph will be accompanied with its original transmittal envelope which is addressed to a collector in the U.S. and is postmarked Frankfurt 7.5.76. The autograph is authentic, uncommon and difficult to obtain and this is a desirable example of this prominent German aviation pioneer. We have listed a collection of military, aviation and astronaut autographs.
