which started in Detroit, dated August 8, 1926, one day after the contest started in Detroit.

in trial flight for the second annual Ford Reliability Tour of the United States.
Twenty five planes
have already started off from Detroit on this tour, for the Ford Trophy and for
cash prizes totaling ,000
. Eight passengers may be carried in the cabin of the Ford plane which is one of the fleet making the reliability tour. 8-8-26"

The Ford Reliability Tour, properly called "
The National Air Tour for the Edsel B. Ford Reliability Trophy
", was a series of Aerial Tours sponsored in part by Ford from 1925 to 1931 and re-created in 2003. Top prize was the Edsel Ford Reliability Trophy....
The 1926 Air tour started at Ford Field on August 7, 1926. The event featured the unveiling of the prototype Ford Flivver. There was a field of 25 contestants. A new scoring system for time to "stick" and "unstick" aircraft to the ground helped promote the use of brakes which were unpopular at the time."

. Henry Woodhouse was a significant figure in early aviation and helped to found the Aero Club of America; he was an early advocate for the use of the aeroplane and was the publisher of such 1910's magazines as
Flying
and
Aerial Age
. We will be listing over one thousand original early aviation photos, early century press photos, negatives and documents over the next few months.
