British Council “Decolonizing Digital” Fellowship 2021 for Early-Career African Researchers (Funded) is a program developed to help African researchers carry their research study.
It was developed as a bespoke opportunity by the British Count in conjunction with the Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities (IASH).
The aim and objective of this research study are to focus on decolonizing digital in the context of cultural and creative production in Africa.
This program is a 7-month training scheme for Africans who are living on the continent. It is going to take place at the University of Edinburgh and it will start in April 2021.
Benefits and worth of Award
Qualified candidates and individuals will have their own share of stipends and benefits to keep them going through the course of this research study.
- A stipend of 1,300 Great Britain Pounds.
- 1,000 Great Britain Pound for travel grant and assistance with the UK visa application process and cost.

Eligibility
For one to be able to get picked they have to meet the minimum requirements. You also have to be a citizen of any African country and resident on the continent.
In addition to the above listed below are what the applicants must have.
- A research and/or professional background that relates to the core areas of British Council programming and strategic engagement: Culture and Creative Industries, Education, Inclusive Communities, and International Relations more broadly.
- An interest in and understanding of digital technologies and platforms and in debates around digital access and inclusivity.
- Experience in engaging non-academic audiences and stakeholders in research (e.g. through engagement with policymakers, practitioners, artists, or broad public audiences).
- Commitment to professional development and a clear understanding of how the fellowship will support this.
- A clear commitment to knowledge sharing and the development of best practices beyond the timeframe of the fellowship itself, based on the networks, insights, and learning developed through their research.

The deadline for this program has been made known to the general public. The application for this fellowship is set to expire on JANUARY 10, 2021.
How to Apply
To apply for this program is very easy. All you the following documents to James.Perkins@britishcouncil.org before the JANUARY 10, 2021 deadline.
- Research proposal up to 3 pages maximum.
- CV up to 3 pages maximum.
- Names, job titles, and contact details of two referees who may be contacted by the British Council later in the application process.
Your research proposal should contain:
- Your motivation for applying for this IASH and the British Council program.
- Detailed information on how you plan to approach and develop the research theme for the fellowship and give out your initial ideas around potential research outputs.
- Give an explanation of how this compliments your research interest, background, and expertise and supports your professional development goals and future plans.
- Indicate an existing connection or experience of collaborating with IASH and/or the British Council.
